Our most favourite thing of this series is to see how every one’s styles are so so different. You can see a little piece of each creator in all that they create. Since temperatures are dropping and it’s getting colder outside, we want to introduce you to an illustrator that will bring colour to your life. Meet Mark Conlan. He has created a beautiful universe with creations you can find yourself in. We hope you enjoy his art as much as we do!

Could you briefly introduce yourself?
I’m Mark Conlan, an illustrator from Dublin working out of Melbourne, Australia. My style focuses on a strong use of character and nature empowered by whimsical and emotional situations. You’ll often see loads of colour splashed throughout my work.
How did you start illustrating?
I have always been drawing in some form since I was very young. In university, I studied Animation before moving to London where I worked as a designer across various agencies. I never really knew that Illustration was viable as a career. On moving to Melbourne, I thought ‘Just do it’! I was in a fortunate position to be able to go at it full time. I haven’t looked back since, the best career move so far.
What inspires you the most?
So many things around me inspire me. If it’s not a beautiful new palette I came across, it’s a beautiful piece of illustration from some illustrator I admire, it’s the weather or simply just watching the world go by.
How would you describe your creative process?
I think my creative process is quite linear. It always begins with lots of exploration work. I generally produce lots of sketches and then some really loose colour development pieces. Once happy, I bring the sketch into photoshop where I work the illustration up digitally where I use a wacom cintiq.
Do you have any advice for aspiring artists?
Just get out and get stuck into it. Its going to be difficult at the start, don’t get frustrated. Be patient and it will come to you. Keep finding time to develop your own voice and be true to your vision along the way.
What are your three favorite instagrammers?
@furrylittlepeach – Sha’an is so lovely and provides such a nice insight into her amazing little studio and her working life.
@raulsoria – I just love Raul’s style, narrative and use of colour.
@homesteadbrookly – Looking into Summers amazing plant life is so fascinating and full of knowledge.
Can’t believe it’s Thursday already—recycling + composting day here, plus another day for Plant One On Me. This episode is on Crafting a Terrarium with Steve from @stevesleavesinc … he fell in love with terrariums when his mother was gifted a few and that’s how his interest in plants started. He offers up a minimalistic approach to terrarium building and coaches, “Do what works for you.” Amen! Link to new episode up in bio ☝🏽💚
